TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A plot to steal Apple iPads went awry recently, landing two Philadelphia men in jail.

Police received a report of a male smashing open glass display cases at Walmart on Route 300 on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 3 a.m. He allegedly stole an unknown number of iPads and fled through a fire door. A vehicle was waiting for him outside in the parking lot, police said.

The suspects sped out of the parking lot. Town police pursued. The suspects’ vehicle traveled to a dead end road, went up an embankment and flipped over. The suspects exited and fled into the woods.

Town officers Jonathan Marcantonio, Anthony Kuhn and Michael Barrese located two of the suspects and placed them in custody. One suspect managed to escape.
