The Washingtonville school board has completed its first round of interviews for the position available March 16 by outgoing superintendent Roberta Greene, who has been superintendent for the past 10 years.

Twenty six applications were initially received by December 18, 2015. The board – headed by president William Santos and working with Orange-Ulster BOCES district superintendent William Hecht – selected six candidates with qualities an incoming superintendent should have based on certain criteria including a list generated by public forums, Greene said. These candidates were interviewed at the district’s offices on January 19-21. The board then narrowed the field down to three candidates: Martin Cox, superintendent of Sodus Central Schools; Yvonne Herrington, assistant superintendent of Wallkill Central Schools; and Michael Cogliano, assistant superintendent of Washingtonville Schools.
