Washingtonville HS “Empty Bowls 2018” Gearing Up
Washingtonville High School’s National Art Honor Society will be hosting its Third Annual Empty Bowls WHS Fundraiser benefiting the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley and the Country Kids Food Pantry of Washingtonville on Apr. 28, 2018, from 1:00-3:30 p.m. in the high school’s two cafeterias.
Organizers will be adding some variety to the event this year by hosting a Dessert Social where, with a suggested donation for a hand-crafted ceramic bowl, guests can partake in a make-your-own ice cream sundae and dessert buffet with goods donated by Washingtonville community members, restaurants, and businesses. At the end of the event, guests leave with an “empty bowl” and a full stomach, which will serve as a reminder of all those who are struggling with food insecurity.
The first and second annual Empty Bowls WHS Fundraisers were both a huge success. Each year over 300 guests purchased bowls made by students, parents, staff, faculty, and local artists. In the two years combined, $9,450 was raised to feed families in need.
This project is about art, food, community, and activism, an equation that can only equal success. To participate in one of the Empty Bowls WHS workshops, sign up to donate goods or services, volunteer at the event, and/or purchase an Empty Bowls WHS apron or t-shirt, please see links, contacts, and deadlines below:
