New Windsor’s Veterans Day

Veterans Day in New Windsor

New Windsor American Legion Post 1796 hosted this years Veterans Day Ceremony. At eleven o clock the New Windsor Firehouse siren sounded, service groups girl scouts and guests had marched from the firehouse to the Monument at Route 9W/Route 94. New Windsor Police Department maintained a safe road ahead of the marchers and directed traffic while ceremony was held. Commander of the American Legion Joe Pifer called everyone to attention then gave the command for hand salute, the crowd then said the Pledge of Alliance,Joseph Rudd,Legion Chaplain led everyone in a prayer. The guest speaker was AirForce Major Thomas McGuire,of the 105th Airlift wing at Stewart Airport. He talked about all the different people serving the Armed Forces,the different religions they have,Physical appearance means nothing,Diversity makes our military stronger. Commander Pifer then called the groups to place wreaths on the monument.Town Clerk Debbie Green placed a wreath on the Nicholas Brooks stone,then others placed theirs. Bag Piper William Hennesey then played God Bless America,followed by Amazing Grace. Lunch was served back at the legion hall.
