$9.6 M Funding for Orange County Includes Funding for Lake Washington Water Issues

Twenty-one Orange County projects eligible to receive approximately $9.6 million from Gov. Cuomo’s REDC initiative

The funding includes 1.72 million to the Orange County Water Authority for the purpose of purchasing and/or perpetually protecting with conservation easements land adjacent to Washington Lake and Brown’s Pond to keep them from further contamination. It also includes $500,000 for Mt. St. Mary College.
Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus announced on Wednesday that 21 projects within Orange County have been awarded approximately $9.6 million as part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative.
“These funds are positive investments into Orange County and are greatly appreciated,” Neuhaus said. “The overall awards are a testament to Orange County’s commitment to economic development and I’m proud of the applicants that received funding. The projects awarded by Governor Cuomo represent some of the most innovative and visionary in our region. I am pleased that the state continues to recognize the economic vitality and creativity of Orange County’s business community.”

Orange County project highlights include:

• City of Middletown, $3.05 million: Middletown will purchase land and conservation easements surrounding Kinch Pond and enhance the riparian buffer, which will help control the potential negative impacts associated with development/redevelopment and land use.

• City of Newburgh, $280,000: Newburgh will prepare project construction documents for the Newburgh Landing Pier design, including demolition of the existing pier and construction of a new structure with two extensions to accommodate large cruise ships and provide for transient mooring on the Hudson River.

• Contract Packaging Services Inc., Harriman, $695,000: Will expand its existing manufacturing facility by adding additional space and purchasing new equipment to increase capacity and accommodate its growth in the confectionery packaging industry.

• Kratify Brewing Brewhouse Renovation, $540,000: Kraftify will produce the New York Brewing Company Project, utilizing the former Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in Warwick and transforming into a 10-barrel production brew house, renovated to include: a canning line, tasting room, event space, outdoor beer garden, and an artisanal brick oven pizza kitchen.

• Mediprint LLC, Goshen, $1.2 million: To establish a design and production laboratory and administrative headquarters to provide medical 3D printing services to major medical centers throughout the country.

• Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, $500,000: Mount Saint Mary will continue its Campus Revitalization Project, which includes renovations to its Dominican Center, existing campus dormitory, the Schools of Business and Nursing, Aquinas Theater and athletic fields.

• Orange County Water Authority, 1.72 million: The Orange County Water Authority will purchase land or perpetual conservation easements on properties that, if developed, would negatively impact water quality of Washington Lake and Brown’s Pond.
