The Week In Review-The Weekend Ahead

St. Mary’s Caroling in Washingtonville

St. Mary’s Christmas Caroling in Washingtonville

About 80 people fanned out with candles from St. Mary’s Church Parish Center off of Ahern Blvd. in Washingtonville on the evening of Dec. 17 to sing choral Christmas carols throughout the village residences within walking distance. Groups of about 10 people each, made up of adults, teens, and children, traveled in bands along the sidewalks, stopping intermittently at the area’s houses and condos to sing traditional carols in both English and Latin. Here, a group sang “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” to a resident who said it was “so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.” Fr. Jeffrey Maurer has organized this annual event for the past few years, with everyone welcome to join in singing these familiar centuries-old tunes, and has watched it grow in his robust parish.
