The Week In Review-The Weekend Ahead

Pack 6 celebrates eight Arrow of Light recipients at annual Blue and Gold Banquet
Scouts, leaders and family members from Cub Scout Pack 6 of Cornwall-on-Hudson gathered March 4 for the pack’s annual Blue and Gold Banquet, in Washingtonville where pack leaders presented eight scouts with the Arrow of Light award and held a ceremony where the boys officially crossed over into Boy Scouts.

The banquet, held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, also included acknowledgement of key projects involving all Pack 6 members over the past year, which included helping Wreaths Across America in laying wreaths at veterans’ graves at the West Point Cemetery and a hurricane relief supply drive that Pack 6 leaders coordinated in cooperation with leaders of Cub Scout Pack 32 in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

This year’s Arrow of Light recipients are Austin Colsant, Daniel Duignan, Logan Gasparini, Tyler Lane, Ethan O’Brien, Gabriel Phillips, Jonathan Tate and Carter Vallinino. O’Brien, Lane, Colsant and Vallinino crossed over to join Boy Scout Troop 206 of Cornwall-on-Hudson. Gasparini and Duignan will be part of Troop 16 of Washingtonville, while Tate will join Troop 23 at West Point and Phillips crossed over to Troop 118 in Cornwall.

Pack 6 Cubmaster Dan Kelly acknowledged Den Leaders Lisa Senk and Brian Colsant for their leadership and dedication, which he said was key in guiding the boys from their first scouting days as first graders in the Tiger Den to becoming Arrow of Light recipients, the highest rank in Cub Scouting.

“The boys have all worked extremely hard to receive their Arrow of Light awards, and we’re grateful that they had such excellent leadership to help them reach this point,” Kelly said. “We’ll miss having the boys with us in Pack 6, but we look forward to their achievements as they advance in scouting.”

Cub Scouts in Pack 6 build both character and friendships through scouting. Pack members take part in many community events in the greater Cornwall community, including marching in the Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades, taking part annually in the local Veterans’ Day ceremony, participating in the annual 9/11 remembrance, and helping local veterans groups in placing flags at local cemeteries on Memorial Day.

As a group, scouts have enjoyed outings over the past year to Howe Caverns, Great Escape Lodge, Army sporting events at West Point, a campout on the USS Slater, and hikes on local trails. On Saturday, March 10, scouts will gather for Pack 6’s annual Pinewood Derby, where the boys will race miniature wood cars they design and create from a block of wood.
