New Windsor All-Star Bowling Team
Brings Smiles and Strikes to Tarsio Lanes
By Edie Johnson
New Windsor – There were smiles and “High 5’s” all around at Tarsio Bowling Lanes this week when the brand new New Windsor All Stars Recreation team of youngsters with some special challenges strutted their stuff.
Some of the bowling balls traveled faster than others, but most found their way nearly down the middle and left a trail of quite astonishing strikes and spares behind them. A few of the smaller children had bracket slides to assist when the balls were too heavy. They as well found their way mostly to the center of the pins and many and often most of them down.
Kids urged each other on and checked the computer monitors for results while parents and coaches beamed widely with pride.
The program began last Spring with a Special Needs Soccer program successfully put together by councilmen Andrew Regenbaum and Steve Moreau along with New Windsor’s Recreation Dept. Director Matt Veronesi. Matt announced that they are now expanding it to other sports in what will be an All Stars Team.
He added special thanks to Tarsio Lanes, Horizon Family Medical Group, and Clothes Mixture Minded for their generous sponsorship. Each youngster eagerly received one of the bright blue tee’s. The program is free and open to all youth with special challenges. New Windsor residency is not required.
