New Windsor Awarded Arbor Day Grant
Public Tree Planting Planned for April 27th
The Town of New Windsor has been awarded an Arbor Day Community Grant from the New York State Urban Forestry Council and is initiating a Town Tree Committee
The grant in the amount of $990 will fully fund the purchase of five trees and applicable supplies (mulch, top soil) to be planted at the town hall complex. The planting will occur during a public Arbor Day Event scheduled for 11 AM on April 27, 2018.
Supervisor Green stated, “The Town of New Windsor is grateful to the NYS Urban Forestry Council for selecting our town’s application as one of the 2018 Arbor Day Community Grant winners. We are looking forward to our special Arbor Day event and invite the entire community to attend.”
At the April 4th town board meeting the town board accepted the grant and authorized the creation of a new town tree committee. The tree committee will provide oversight, management and planning for tree populations on town owned properties.
Councilman Steve Moreau was appointed to serve as chair of the new tree committee. Moreau stated, “We are excited to host New Windsor’s Arbor Day event. A big thank you goes out to the NYS Urban Forestry Council for awarding us this grant. We ask all members of the community to attend our Arbor Day tree planting celebration on April 27th.”
The Arbor Day event will include an educational component for local students and others who are interested. Members of the community, student and community groups have been invited and are encouraged to join in on the Arbor Day festivities.
