Goosepond Area Open Space Permanently Preserved And Linked to Trail System

Chester -As Assemblyman James Skoufis cuts the ribbon, approximately 400 acres were preserved forever and linked with Goosepond Mountain State Park, enhancing the Highlands Trail in the process with two new miles of trail. Now, hikers will be able to travel through the beautiful wilderness.

The project was made possible by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, Open Space Institute, Palisades Interstate Park Commission, Orange County Land Trust as well as the tireless efforts of local residents, including Tracy Schuh. Assemblyman Skoufis also supported the project through his advocacy of the state’s Environmental Protection Fund which funded $3 million toward the project.
