Dem Convention Picks Candidates for November
The election lineup for this year cooled down for a week or two, but just had a new flame lit this week with nominations by the Democratic Party.
Kevindaryan Lujan, Orange County Legislator for the 4th District, was nominated for the 104th District seat recently vacated due to the death of longtime Assemblyman Frank Skartados. The district covers Newburgh, Beacon, Poughkeepsie, Marlboro and Lloyd. Steven Gold, Chief of Staff for Skartados, had entered the race but has since dropped out.
Jen Metzger got the dem nomination for the 42nd District which was held by retiring Senator John Bonacic. She will face a contest for the seat is also being sought by Orange County Clerk Ann Rabbitt.
Orange County Democratic Chairman, Brett Broge was nominated to fill the assembly seat for the 99th District currently held by James Skoufis, who is running against Stony Point Councilman, Tom Basile for the 39th District Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Bill Larkin. The seat is also being sought by republican Colin Schmitt, currently Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant to Supervisor George Green in the Town of New Windsor.

NEWBURGH, NY – Candidate wins endorsement of Dem County Party by 2:1 Margin Running to fill vacant Assembly seat
First term County Legislator KevindaryánLuján (D, WF – Newburgh) has been endorsed by the Orange County Democratic Party in the race for the 104th Assembly District last night. Winning by a 2:1 majority in Orange, he now will seek the commitments of Dutchess and Ulster County Democrats to secure the nomination for Assembly.
“Kevindaryán has made us proud in his short time in the legislature and his leadership and passion are what we need in this Assembly district,” said Vanessa Tirado, Town of Newburgh Chair.

Luján is running to succeed Assemblyman Frank Skartados, who passed away this past April, “When I think about the kind of leader I would like to be, I need not look far; Assemblyman Skartados was everything you could have wanted from a Public Servant: kind, compassionate, accessible and determined,” said the first term Legislator. “Assemblyman Skartados always fought to bring Newburgh and the district as a whole its fair share of funds, and I promise to do the same,” added Luján.
Luján is a first term Legislator in Orange County’s 4th legislative district, representing the Town and City of Newburgh.
