Mediacom Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Award Winners Honored in Blooming Grove
Mediacom Communications announced today that it held a reception honoring this year’s class of Mediacom Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Award recipients. The awards were presented to graduating seniors from 15 different high schools throughout Orange County. Students were selected for the award based on a combination of work ethic, academic performance and personal accomplishments. In addition, these young men and women also contributed to their schools and communities through extra-curricular activities and community service. Each of the students received a $1,000 college scholarship and a special plaque commemorating their achievement.
Also attending the ceremony were three recipients of the Rocco B. Commisso American Dream Fund Scholarship. Created in 2014, The Rocco B. Commisso American Dream Fund provides financial assistance to students attending Mount Saint Michael Academy in Bronx, NY, where Mediacom Founder and CEO Rocco B. Commisso graduated from in 1967.
During the reception, Commisso gave a brief history of Mediacom, highlighting the entrepreneurial roots upon which it was founded. He also provided insight on how to succeed in business, encouraging the students to work hard, lead by example, take risks, seize opportunities and always conduct themselves ethically.
“The scholarships I received graduating from high school were fundamental to my pursuit of a college education,” stated Commisso. “In creating the Mediacom Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Award, it was my goal not only to recognize Orange County’s next generation of entrepreneurs but also to assist them, in a small way, in covering their college tuition.”
One opportunity Mr. Commisso encouraged the scholarship recipients to explore was his company’s Career Achievement Program. This program gives college students the chance to intern at Mediacom’s corporate headquarters and is designed to strengthen students’ understanding of the business environment while developing specific skill sets that will enhance their value to employers. This summer’s intern class includes former Mediacom Entrepreneur of Tomorrow scholarship winner Lauren Lacroix, who graduated from Washingtonville High School in 2015 and now studies public relations at Marist College.
Mr. Commisso has poured significant personal and corporate resources into funding educational opportunities for young people. Through the World Class Scholars Program, September 11th Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Rocco B. Commisso American Dream Fund and the Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Award, Mediacom and Commisso have provided educational scholarships to more than 1,600 students nationwide since 2001. This year marks the fifth time that Mediacom has presented the Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Award to exceptional high school seniors throughout Orange County.
