Independence Day Brings Big Crowds Out to Celebrate In Our Area
Big crowds came out in the Town of Newburgh, City of Newburgh, and Town of Cornwall/Cornwall-On-Hudson in addition to the Great American Weekend in Goshen.
Cornwall Independence Day festivities begin with a virtual pilgrimage, with residents setting chairs out to watch the parade, an all-day fair and dozens of vendors, all leading up to the fireworks grand finale. With bandstand music and the big “BOOMs” echoing off the mountainsides, this year’s crowd started spontaneously singing “Good Bye Miss American Pie.” The fireworks finale flashed and boomed against the beautiful adjacent Methodist church in a haunting remembrance of the chances our early settlers took to earn their freedom.
