UPDATE: Officer Frank Pierri is recovering at home, according to the New Windsor Police Department, and expects to be back serving the public in a few weeks. The suspect, who ran over Pierri while trying to escape a drug arrest, is in the Orange County Jail.
OFFICER ATTACKED WHILE SUSPECT ATTEMPTS TO SWALLOWS DRUGS
New Windsor Police Officers Francis Pierri and Steven Bohr, while on Patrol on Route 9W observed a vehicle heading southbound committing numerous traffic violations. After stopping the vehicle they observed crack cocaine in the center console of the vehicle and asked the driver to step out of the car. At this time the suspect put the car into drive – hitting Officer Pierri with his vehicle and the suspect attempted to swallow the crack cocaine. Officer Bohr was able to reach in the vehicle and put the car into park and arrest the suspect.
Officer Pierri suffered an injury to his leg and was transported from the scene to St Luke’s Hospital by New Windsor Ambulance Corps.
Pierri was honored last year as New Windsor’s Police Officer of the Year as well as receiving a Life Saving Honor along with fellow officers.
The New Windsor Police Department told the Orange County Post that Officer Pierri is now at home resting, and will be back to serve the public in a few weeks.
Arrested was Khachatur Ziroyan age 26 of Monroe NY with charges of Assault in the 2nd degree (D- Felony), Tampering with Physical Evidence (E-Felony), Possession of a controlled substance (A-Misdemeanor), Resisting arrest (A-Misdemeanor), Obstructing Governmental Administration (A-Misdemeanor), and Reckless Endangerment (A-Misdemeanor)

was sent to Orange County Jail on $25,000 bail.
