HV BULLDOGS CAPTURE 52 TEAM MID-SUMMER CLASSIC, DIORIO NAMED MVP
Last weekend the Hudson Valley Bulldogs 16u captured the 52 Team Mid-Summer Classic at Diamond Nation in New Jersey. The Bulldogs finished 5-0 over the two day stretch and outscored opponents 45-7. They won one of three brackets and finished the overall tournament 1 seed.
Kyle Cacamise, Eric Grzchowski and RJ Kruse lead the hitting attack for the dogs with seven hits each, while Nic Lepere and Josh Hernandez each added six. RJ Kruse reached base safely on 13 of 15 plate appearances including nine RBI’s including one homerun and two doubles.
The Cornwall Marlboro pitching connection of the Brady twins, Kevin and Kyle (Cornwall) and Fred Callo and Christian Diorio (Marlboro) combined for all five wins. The Bulldogs held opponents to seven runs through five games.
“Usually a couple players get a hot bat, but our entire line up was on fire. 50 hits over 25 innings, hold teams to less than a run and a half per game and complete five games with no errors and you’re going to win tournaments”, said Rich Lepere, Bulldog Coach.
DIORIO NAMED TOURNEY MVP
Christian Diorio a 2020 Marlboro grad was named the bracket MVP. Diorio pitched a total of nine innings throughout the weekend allowing zero runs. He gave up six hits and allowed only three walks while striking out nine over the nine innings. He picked up two wins on Sunday pitching three innings of a four inning game shortened by a ten run rule on Sunday morning beating the New Jersey Cardinals 11-0 and then shut down team Demarini 8-0 in the championship game in the evening. Diorio added seven RBI’s including two doubles and a triple offensively throughout the weekend.
“Diorio is a competitor, seems to be able to turn it up a notch in big situations.We’re going to miss him throughout the rest of the year as he begins football. During the season he batted .384 including five triples and five doubles with 91 plate appearances and allowed less then one earned run per game (.866 ERA) while pitching 33 inning for us”, stated Rich Lepere, Bulldogs Head Coach.
