WIHC Wizard’s Teamwork Heats Up the Ice Over the Weekend

The Washingtonville Ice Hockey Club hosted four games at Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh over the first weekend of November. The Wizards dominated the ice with phenomenal teamwork and highly coordinated plays, leading to tremendous wins with significant margins for three of the four matches. Their persistent domination of the offensive zone paid off repeatedly throughout the weekend.

WIHC’s Varsity: Lead by Head Coach Bob McGrath and Assistants Bob Eisenhauer and Jon Branch, went head-to-head against the John Jay Patriots at Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh, NY,in Game 1, on Friday, November 2, 2018, winning 10-0.With several outstanding plays, Wizards Joseph Brennan and Andrew Godfrey would skate away with a hat trick each, with teammates Tyler Schwerdtfeger, Raymond Bushey, Jacob Branch, and William Connolly also burying the biscuit, seemingly effortlessGoalie Ryan Troy would save 25 shots for a shutout.

In the game against the Cornwall Dragons at Ice Time, in Game 2, on Saturday, November 3, 2018, their teamwork set fire to the ice, coming in huge at 11-4. Joseph Brennan would come up with another hat trick with the remaining goals scored by Wizards Andrew Godfrey, Tyler Schwerdtfeger, Russell Leiter, and Jack Levitsky.Goalie Ryan Whitchurch saved16 shots.

WIHC’s JV:Lead by Head Coach Chris Deftereos and Assistants Steve Den Bleyker and Chris Roe, JV faced the John Jay Patriots at Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh, NY,in Game 1, on Saturday, Goalies Ricky Palmeri and Ryan Whitchurch would share the net throughout a heavy penalty-intense match. Despite a 3-2 loss, Wizards Mark Ferry and John Rufrano would not be denied goals.

In the game against the Cornwall Dragons at Ice Time, in Game 2, on Saturday, November 2, 2018, these Wizards displayed immense teamwork and keen passing, coming in huge at 14-3, their first win of the season. The game would include hat tricks by Wizards John Rufrano and James Berry, who each would go on to score an additional goal, for a total of four each.Teammates adding additional points: Cam Longo, Jesse Walker, Daniel Hewitt, Mark Ferry, Christopher Smith, and MylesMcGrail.Goalie Ryan Whitchurch would come up with 17 saves.

JV Wizard, Jack Vander Plaat on spending time in the penalty box this weekend: “It’s tough to watch the game from the box and not be able to do anything about it. Plus, it’s really cold!”

Washingtonville Ice Hockey Club is part of the Hudson Valley High School Ice Hockey Association, consisting of high school teams from Orange and Dutchess County. Its declaration of purpose provides its members will endeavor to provide for all young men and women of the Washingtonville, Warwick, and a few other surrounding communities the format and opportunity to learn and play ice hockey at various age and skill levels. Charter and Articles for the club were proposed and adopted on May 26, 1994.
