Genesis Group Honored
Members of the Genesis Group speak with each other about their eleven-year effort to establish the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor.
The Hall, honoring military service men and women who were awarded the Purple Heart was opened in 2006. The project began when Patric Morrison of Cornwall wrote a letter to the editor of the Sentinel (now the Orange County Post) complaining that there was nowhere in the United States that exclusively honored people who had been awarded the Purple Heart. There are more than 2.8 million recipients of the Purple Heart. The Genesis Group was honored on Wednesday at a ceremony dedicating a plaque that is displayed at the Hall. A picture of the plaque is at the left of the picture of the Genesis Group. Left to right are veterans’ advocate Joseph Farina, Senator William Larkin, Lt. General James D. Hughes, and Orange County Post publisher Everett Smith.
The plaque was donated by Catholic War Veterans Post 386.
