At the Dec. 11 work session, the village board agreed to pay the DEC $25,000 (in $5,000 increments) in old violations from 2008 to when the DEC was brought in by Mayor Joe Bucco to audit the village’s storm drains in 2018. The DEC found nothing had been done under the previous village boards to correct storm water drainage for the past 20 years. Bucco quickly addressed the old violations from previous boards by using the village’s new street sweeper vacuum attachment to suck out the layers of built-up debris. Repair of catch basins neglected for 20 years have already started taking place.

At the Dec. 18 regular village board meeting, the board said it will be getting $15,000 per year for the next 15 years from Washingtonville Solar LLC, which will start building a solar array off Route 208 (the exact tax map locations can be found at Village Hall) by March, in accordance with wildlife conservation codes. The facility should be operational sometime in 2019. These PILOT amounts will be on top of the regular Ag taxes the property pays. More information can be found at Village Hall.

Curbs and sidewalk replacement, repair, and renovation are currently underway in the village starting at Ahern Blvd. and Decker Dr. nearest to Vern Allen Park. Road repair, reconstruction, and improvements should be started shortly. Full details about linear footage, square footage, ADA ramps and curb cuts, and information about the winning bids by A-Tech Concrete and Boyce Excavating can be found at Village Hall.

Mayor Bucco congratulated Chase Bank on its ribbon cutting, and thanked the Planning and Zoning boards, the building inspector, and the village engineer John Petrocini for their input. He also thanked Linda Standish for organizing another fine Wreaths Across America event. Bucco said the upcoming preliminary 2019-20 budget hearings will be at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 7, 10, 15, 18, and 22, with an adoption date set for Jan. 29, all at Village Hall. The first public hearing will be on Jan. 15.

The videos of all work sessions and regular meetings can be found by going to the Village Hall website and clicking on the village’s YouTube channel. Discussions of all village finances are made at these open meetings, which the public is welcome to attend.
