Stewart Land Sale Likely Boon to New Windsor Town and Residents
By Edie Johnson
Breaking News: The Town of New Windsor got a big financial ‘shot-in-the-arm’ this week with the sale of one of the large parcels of land that it owns at New York Stewart International Airport. New Windsor Supervisor, George Green told the Orange County Post today that he is just thrilled about the sale. The closing, he said, was this past Monday and was to the Simone Group, a mega investment and development company, for an undisclosed amount. The investment group has plans for a large hotel that will be built directly across from the main airport facility parking lot.
Green said he is looking forward to watching it develop, along with an associated Industrial Park on the site as well as other parcels the Town owns surrounding the airport. These are some of the most prime commercial lands in the county, and tax income from all of the planned building around Stewart will provide offset monies for the town’s residential areas. There is no word yet whether the development group will seek a PILOT agreement (Payment agreement In Lieu of Taxes) on the hotel or the other parcels.
