Senator Bill Larkin’s Legacy of Giving Honored
The Unity Center in Newburgh was packed for a celebration this past week to give a big thank you and “formal Goodbye” to Senator Bill Larkin and his many years of service to our areas communities. Beginning with an introduction by VFW Commander of New Windsor Post 1796, Andy Komonchak and longtime friend and philanthropist Bob Kaplan (who assisted Larkin in many of his projects) did the welcoming. Larkin was then greeted by County Executive Steve Neuhaus who commented about the miracle of access that would happen whether at the state or national level over the years when Larkin’s name was included, and the many funding enterprises that had been accomplished for the county due to Larkin’s involvement. Neuhaus added that “As a service man (Navy), we know he always has our backs.”
County Sheriff Carl DuBois then took the stage, and after briefly choking up from emotion he simply told the longstanding senator “This is what we want to do for you”. He then asked every police officer, fireman and EMS personnel to come to the stage, and they gave Senator Larkin a long full salute.
