Assemblyman Colin Schmitt Takes Oath in Albany and Again
At Knights of Columbus Hall in Washingtonville
Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R,C,I,Ref-New Windsor) from the 99th Assembly District was sworn in this week at his local Inauguration Ceremony held at the Washingtonville Knights of Columbus Hall in Washingtonville, NY and again in Albany.
Orange County Clerk Annie Rabbitt administered the Oath of Office to Schmitt before a room over 200 attendees. Assemblyman Colin Schmitt stated, “It is the honor and privilege of a lifetime to represent the 99th Assembly District. I want to thank all the constituents of my district for affording me this opportunity to serve.Through an indescribable amount of energy, passion, dedication and faith we are here today. This moment is not mine alone, but also the many people who helped me achieve this office. I couldn’t possibly thank everyone of you individually but know I am forever grateful.I can say with certainty that every little boy and girl in my district has the ability to realize their greatest hopes and dreams living in this wonderful Country of ours. I know, because I have.
Every day I wake up grateful for this opportunity and will work to ensure every resident I represent has equal chance to live out their own dream, whatever it may be.
My high school yearbook quote is from General Douglas MacArthur, “There is no security on this earth; there is only opportunity. I will seek every opportunity to bring about bipartisan solutions to the many issues of critical importance to our district. Whether it is delivering our fair share from state government to invest in our schools and ease property taxes. Or working to solve the heroin epidemic by focusing on prevention, treatment, recovery and law enforcement.
To leading the fight against systemic welfare abuse, defending our natural resources and opposing the continued expansion of the Village of Kiryas Joel. Or supporting term limits and fighting for the accountable, honest government we deserve.
We cannot sit idly by and allow the status quo and the same failures of past generations to set the tone for continued governance. New Yorkers have been disappointed for far too long. We have become accustomed to accepting less than we deserve– that mentality ends now.
I look forward to working with members of both parties and leaders at every level across our region and state to ensure the 99th Assembly District is well served, our values are protected and real solutions are developed and enacted that ensure everyone has the opportunity to live, work and prosper in our district and in our state.
The road forward certainly will not be easy, and as many of you know the road to this moment was not either. So I am ready.
With the support and energy in this room and the love and encouragement from my wife and family I will not yield and will never relent in serving our district for the next two years.”
The 99th District includes to the Town of Stony Point in Rockland and The Towns of Wawayanda, Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Chester, Blooming Grove, New Windsor, Cornwall, Highlands and Woodbury.
