Taft’s Newest Mural an Explosion of Color

Taft’s Newest Mural an Explosion of Color

The newest mural at Washingtonville’s Taft Elementary School has been completed and is visible at the corner of the school’s lobby and the lower wing. This is the third such mural at Taft under the guidance of art teacher Jennifer Czumak, and contains a plethora of colorful aliens and animals celebrating a heart-shaped globe with a map of North America in the center. Each fifth grader drew various designs in Czumak’s art class, which were then selected by Newburgh artist Joe Pimentel, who assembled the composition, sketched the outline, and had each fifth grader paint a section. In this way, each departing student leaves a part of themselves at Taft when they move up to the middle school. And the walls are made permanently vibrant and welcoming. (Photo by Eugenia Moskowitz)
