Washingtonville Fire District 2019 Installation Dinner & Awards Ceremony

Celebrating its 126th birthday this year, the Washingtonville Fire District / Monell Engine Company held its annual Installation Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Jan. 19.

Established in 1892, the fire department has seen many foremen, chiefs, and presidents over the years, and many of its long-time members and families were at the dinner to join in the presentation of awards and to enjoy the festivities which included music, dancing, cocktail hour, hot catered food, and a very popular sushi bar.

The Board of Commissioners for 2019 are: Jim Conley, Jim Skelly, Brian Zaccaro, David J. Phillips III, Paul Schmitt, Henry Ponti, and Janice Ponti. The Line Officers are: Chief Gary Hearn, 1st Asst. Chief Brian Bates, 2nd Asst. Chief Mike Butkus, Captain Danny Hearn, 1st Lieutenant Chris Van Riper, 2nd Lieutenant Vinny Federici, 3rd Lieutenant Mark Alicea, Chief Engineer Mark Borys Jr., and Fire Police Captain Paul Niemann. Many awards and commendations were presented by Chief Gary Hearn, President Michael Saltz, and Past Chief Steve Smith.

CAPTION 3: The Honorary Assistant Chief Award was presented to outgoing Head Commissioner Joe Courter (center) by Chief Gary Hearn (at right) and 1st Asst. Chief Brian Bates (at left). Courter was commissioner for over 25 years.
