Passing of a Hero
Sergeant Rocky, Puppy 392,
Protector of Corporal Nelson Oliveras
(Story from the Oliveras family of New Windsor, NY)
“Some people wonder all their lives if they’ve made a difference. Marines don’t have that problem.” -Ronald Reagan
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved Sgt Rocky, Puppy392. Rocky served in the United States Marine Corps as an Improvised Explosive Detection Dog until he was six years old. He did four tours, one in Iraq and three in Afghanistan. The last of those tours in 2011 serving along side his handler, Cpl Nelson Oliveras. Rocky detected many IEDs (improvised explosive devices) saving the lives of numerous Marines. Once Rocky retired from the USMC in 2012, Cpl Oliveras adopted him and he has been living out his retirement with his family in New Windsor, New York ever since. He was the best dog anyone could have ever asked for. A true American hero. We will never forget you, Rocky man. Your story will be told for years to come. Rest In Peace my boy. Semper Fi.
