Washingtonville Cornwall, Newburgh Players Earn Honors
Section IX BCANY Top Fifty All-Stars
The Basketball Coaches Association of New York Section IX Girls Division held their annual awards banquet at Kuhl’s Highland House on March 12th. The top fifty female players in all of Section IX, as voted by the coaches, were recognized with a buffet style dinner attended by 180 players, coaches and guests. The evening was a wonderful opportunity for opponents to mingle off the court away from the competition and share memories of the past season. Players from all classes of schools; AA, A, B, C/D received plaques honoring them for not only their basketball skills but their commitment to their respective schools basketball programs. They are talented players but also great student athletes and community service volunteers. Many will continue their high school careers and some will embark on the journey of college basketball.
Representing AA schools were Gabby Palladino from Newburgh Free Academy and Gianna Cancelleri and Victoria Pecovic from Washingtonville Central. Class A was represented by Maggie Malone and Eliana Bulusan from Cornwall.
In addition to the Top Fifty All-Star recognition Victoria Pecovic was named Class AA Player of the Year. Maggie Malone was named Class A Player of the Year. Coach Chris Miller was named Class A Coach of the Year.
Many of the honorees will be trying out for the Mid-Hudson (Section IX) team that will play against the best high school talent in New York State at the BCANY Summer Hoop Festival held in Johnson City August 2nd. (Photos provided) Top of page Victoria Pecovec, Below Gianna Cancelleri
