Town of Newburgh Holds Memorial Day Ceremony

American Legion Post 1420 Commander Mervin Mickle welcomed everyone to the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Town of Newburgh Town Hall. He announced the town and state officials who were present, and thanked Town Supervisor Gil Piaquadio. The Chaplain gave an opening prayer. JROTC from Newburgh Free Academy presented their colors. Supervisor Piaquadio then welcomed everyone and said he and the town board members would like to thank all the veterans who came to the ceremony, along with the town’s  Fire Departments and Boy Scouts.  He then thanked all veterans  that served and said “Let us never forget the ones who did not make it home.” State Senator Skoufis said a few words, followed by Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson. Commander Mickle called the service groups to come up and place their wreaths by the monument. Guest speaker was Colonel Edward Seward who talked about his years in active duty and the JROTC at  Newburgh Free Academy, adding that he has been in the Air Force going on thirty years. The rifle squad then fired their guns followed by a bagpiper playing Amazing Grace. (Story and Photos by Bob McCormick)
