The Week In Review-The Weekend Ahead

Miracles Come In Many Forms

Miracles Come In Many Forms

The Parish of St. Teresa of Calcutta, Sacred Heart-St. Francis of Assisi Churches in Newburgh, NY, were honored on Sunday, June 9th, 2019, with the presence of Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archdiocese of New York, as he celebrated the 11:00 Mass in St. Thomas in Cornwall. As the community-at-large knows, the Italian Feast was being held on the grounds of Sacred Heart June 7 through the 9.

Immediately following the Mass, the traditional procession of the Statues of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Anthony took place as the faithful walked behind them around the block. The Statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus as well as Our Lady of Guadalupe were also included in the procession.

Cardinal Dolan greeted many people throughout the procession, but one person in particular stood out for him. Her name is Frieda Formato, who is 96 years old and will turn 97 this November. Frieda has been attending the mass and procession for several years and this year she was given the opportunity to meet and speak with the Cardinal. She related to His Eminence, that June 9 would have been her 73 Wedding Anniversary if her husband, Anthony M. Formato were alive. This month will be the 25 anniversary of his passing.

When interviewed she stated “Miracles do happen” because this past week brought about some miraculous news for her and her family. Today was the “icing” on the cake.
