Flag Retirement Ceremony at Washington Headquarters

Newburgh ELKS 247 held Flag Retirement Ceremony on June 14 at Washington Headquarters. Presenting the Colors were-Civil Air Patrol Honor Guard-NER-NY-22,Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Leanora K. Ware sang the Star Spangled Banner. History of the flag was read by Paul Ernenwein. Michael Kirto Exalted Ruler welcomed the crowd, Leonard Shustack announced all the visitors and County Officials present  . Boy Scout Troop Twenty Seven and girls scouts marched the flags during the history of flags. Guest Speaker Lt Col Brian Silver New York Air National Guard talked about the meaning of the flag when the service men and women go on tours of duty and how lucky we are to have served in this free nation. After the fire was lit the flags were placed for burning TAPS was played. After words everyone was invited to the ELKS Hall for refreshments. (Photos by Bob McCormick)
