The Week In Review-The Weekend Ahead

Beat the Heat Wave this Weekend

Forecasters are predicting high temperatures in the 90s and triple digit heat indexes across the Hudson Valley. Extreme heat is a very significant hazard, and many City residents are especially vulnerable to the dangers presented during extreme heat. As such, the City of Newburgh is taking many steps to address these concerns, and encourages the public to utilize the wide range of services and activities.
To stay cool during extremely hot days, it is recommended to drink plenty of cool liquids, and seek an air-conditioned environment. In order to facilitate the latter, a Cooling Center will be available at the Activities Center, 401 Washington Street from 12:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19th & Saturday, July 20th. Furthermore, the City will extend the hours of the Aquatic Center at Delano Hitch Park during the same dates and times.
In addition to opening a Cooling Center and extending the hours of operation for the Aquatic Center, the City of Newburgh Water Department will be operating a “Playground on Wheels”. This consists of opening fire hydrants at specific locations so that City residents can cool off from the excessive heat predicted. The locations and hours of operation for the “Playground on Wheels” are as follows:
 Friday, July 19, 2019: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
 1) Overlook Pl. & S. Lander St.
 2) Recreation Dept. (behind Cooling Center – 401 Washington St.)
 Saturday, July 20, 2019: 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
 1) Overlook Pl. & S. Lander St.
 2) Recreation Dept. (behind Cooling Center – 401 Washington St.)
All residents are urged to take all precautions necessary during times of excessive heat; assist neighbors and pets, and direct any immediate requests for assistance to the Newburgh Fire Department at 845-562-1212 or the Newburgh Police Department at 845-561-3131
