W’ville Paving Project to Begin
By Eugenia Moskowitz
The Village of Washingtonville will begin its paving project on or about Sept. 3. The roads that will be paved first are: Decker Drive, Smith Court, and Hayes Place.
The project, considered long overdue by Mayor Joe Bucco and the village board, has been planned and worked out by the current Bucco administration after decades of neglect and damage from harsh winters including pitting, cracking, and potholes. After months of planning, the extensive project began last spring with replacing the sidewalks and curbing along Ahern Blvd. and Decker Drive, and the renovation of the Vern Allen parking area, with new curb cuts for quicker entrance and exit flow. Because of the extensive manpower involved to accomplish this project and still maintain the streets and parks, the renovation of the E.J. McLaughlin III Common (known as center square), and the creation of the Dog Park at Vern Allen Park and the Sewell Park across from the middle school, have been delayed, Mayor Bucco said. “Our village continues to move in a positive direction,” he said, “and I am grateful to all residents for their patience. We will never stop improving the village.”
