Washingtonville Staff Member Honored

This fall, Washingtonville Central School District (WCSD) staff member Teresa Silverman will be honored by the Mid-Hudson School Study Council (MHSSC) for possessing the qualities and skills necessary for making a difference in students’ lives.

Mrs. Silverman has been chosen for a MHSSC Award of Excellence in the support staff category. Over the years, she has worked in various District support staff roles and currently holds two positions, monitor/greeter at the High School and district clerk for the Board of Education. She is equally skilled in both roles and very important to the WCSD.

In Mrs. Silverman’s role as a greeter, her most important responsibility is granting access to the building. With today’s emphasis on school safety, this is a serious assignment and one she handles with accuracy and attention to detail.

One of her strengths is recognizing when someone needs help. Countless times she has witnessed a student having an issue and has either assisted the child herself or alerted the appropriate staff member for support. She is a calming influence with parents when there is an issue and, as a parent herself, she recognizes that there is nothing more important to families than their children.

As the district clerk, Mrs. Silverman’s service is invaluable. Her organization, attention to detail, and work ethic are all essential to the success of Washingtonville’s Board of Education.

“While monitor and clerk are Mrs. Silverman’s job titles at Washingtonville Central School District, the students are her passion and that is evident in the love and support she provides our kids,” said Washingtonville High School Principal Brian Connolly.
