Craft Fair Fills South Blooming Grove Firehouse
By Edie Johnson
The Village of South Blooming Grove has plenty to celebrate and be thankful for this holiday season, and they came out in full force last Sunday in support of their small village of just over 3,200. And Santa was there to greet all of the visitors. Not only do they have a beautiful newly renovated Village Hall, all decked out with lights and surrounded with new landscaping, they held a Holiday Craft Fair that was so busy with both craft tables and customers, it barely fit in the South Blooming Grove Independence Fire Company Auditorium. Dozens of craft tables filled the rooms with candles, soaps, hand-knitted scarves, holiday decorations, handmade jewelry and clothing. It all had people commenting “Who needs to fight traffic on the way to a mall to shop for gifts?” This way they not only got their gift shopping for friends and relatives done, had a chance to visit with friends and neighbors and support both the efforts of the resident crafters and local organizations like Girl Scout Troop 318 which is working to earn funds for a trip to Japan next Summer.
As the Independence Hall filled, the firemen moved their trucks outside to make space for the approximately 31 craft tables that filled occupied just about every inch of the space, a big success for all.
