Washingtonville Dedicates Auditorium to Jodi Davis

Washingtonville Dedicates Auditorium to Jodi Davis

By Eugenia Moskowitz

On January 31, the community gathered as the District dedicated the newly renovated High School Auditorium in loving memory of Jodi S. Davis. Prior to Mrs. Davis’s passing in 2018, she worked as a guidance counselor in the District for 28 years and founded the school’s Masque and Mime Club. The love and expertise she shared with her students created a culture that still exists in the school’s theater for the performing arts today. The theater was her classroom, so it is fitting that the auditorium is now named in her honor. WHS Principal Brian Connolly was the Master of Ceremonies for the event, which featured an array of tributes and performances from those that were touched and inspired by Mrs. Davis. Speakers included: Roy Reese, former Washingtonville Superintendent; David Brunner, who currently serves on the Washingtonville Board of Education and previously worked alongside Mrs. Davis in the WHS guidance department; Jim Brady, alumnus and theater professional; Daniella Denaro and Megan Quinn, alumnae, current Masque and Mime leaders, and WHS teachers; and Paul Davis, Mrs. Davis’s widower and current Taft Elementary School music teacher. Every speech touched upon a common theme–the fact that Mrs. Davis will always be remembered for creating a warm environment where all students were welcomed, accepted, and treated equally.
