Blooming Grove Mourns Loss of Trustee Jim Mullany
Jim Mullany was an upstanding citizen of the Village of South Blooming Grove. Not only was he an active volunteer within our community, he was instrumental in the formation of the Village and served as a Trustee on the Village Board since 2006. He was also our first Deputy Mayor. As a charter member of the South Blooming Grove Homeowners’ Association, Jim was very involved in the annual holiday celebrations in our community, most notably Santa’s annual ride through the village. He was always in attendance at the Village’s Annual Community Day, helping out wherever needed. Jim and his wife, Maureen, were the proud owners of Maureen Mullany’s Pub in Goshen and were always huge supporters of their community.
Jim was a disabled and combat US Army veteran who served in Viet Nam. He was drafted while he was an NYPD trainee and served overseas as a door gunner on a Huey helicopter responsible for the safe transport of troops into and out of battle. Upon his safe return stateside, he resumed employment with the New York City Police Department from which he retired after many years of dedicated service. In December 2019, He was inducted into the 99th Assembly District’s inaugural Veterans’ Hall of Fame by Assemblyman Colin Schmitt.
“Jim Mullany was a great friend and colleague. As a new mayor, Jim was always supportive of me and as the senior member of our Village Board, was always willing to help the newly elected members in any way he could. Jim always put the health and well-being of others before his own and for that we will be eternally grateful. Anyone who knew him, knew that Jim’s gruff exterior couldn’t hide his soft heart. Jim Mullany will live on in our memories… those blue eyes peering at me over his glasses while making a snarky comment, the smell of a cigar, and the best homemade eggnog I’ve ever had,” said Mayor James LoFranco.
Blooming Grove Supervisor, Rob Jeroloman said “I am very saddened to hear of Trustee James Mullany’s passing. Jim’s years of public service in the Village of South Blooming Grove will be remembered for decades to come. In September 2006, when the Village of South Blooming Grove was incorporated, Jim became one of the first members of the board. I had the honor to serve with him on that Board from 2006 until 2018. I will always remember him as a good friend. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Asseblyman Colin Schmitt added: I am saddened to learn of the passing of Village of South Blooming Grove Trustee Jim Mullany. Jim was a founding father of the Village, a Vietnam Veteran and retired NYPD officer. His life was about serving others. This fall Jim was inducted as an inaugural member of the 99th Assembly District Veterans’ Hall of Fame. His story is part of our traveling wall of honor. Nikki and I send our prayers and deepest condolences to Jim’s family and many friends.
