Blooming Grove – Mt. Lodge Road between Clove and Route 208 is a quaint and beautiful stretch of road, but it handles a lot of heavy traffic. Between heavy trucks from 2 quarries headed to and from Route 208, and fire trucks from the Mt. Lodge Fire Department, the load can be many thousands of pounds per day. With this small bridge showing serious wear and tear, it has been deemed an emergency that needs immediate attention. If not addressed soon, Highway Superintendent Wayne Kirkpatrick said the bridge could be at risk of collapse. The town was advised by county officials that with construction bidding currently limited it will be most expedient to purchase one of the large modular plates called a “dimensional floating deck” set on corner supports. Meanwhile, Kirkpatrick said his team plans to pack the pavement and put barriers so that travel will be restricted to one-way. This way the weight load will be halved until repairs are done. The project is estimated to cost $30-$40,000. Meanwhile the bridge is being monitored daily.
