Skoufis Grants $125K to Fire Company in Washingtonville

Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) announced that he secured $125,000 in state funding for the Monell Engine Company in Washingtonville. The $125K will be used to replace the current elevator and renovate both the firehouse and the driveway. Senator Skoufis secured this grant through the State and Municipal Facilities Program.

Senator James Skoufis said, “First responders and dedicated members of the Washingtonville Fire Department need up-to-date facilities that keep up with the essential work they do. I was glad to fight for this grant because I know how desperately the Monell Engine Company needs a new, functioning elevator, as well as overall upgrades. The state must do everything possible to support the people who keep our communities safe and who are always there when we need them.”

Michael Saltz, President of the Monell Engine Company said, “I thank Senator Skoufis for working to get us this desperately-needed funding. When our utilities are updated, it allows us to do our jobs as best as possible and better protect our communities. I look forward to continuing to prioritize public safety alongside Senator Skoufis.”

Senator Skoufis is committed to bringing back state funds to Washingtonville. In December, Skoufis announced $68,000 for a new generator for the Moffat Library. While serving in the Assembly, Skoufis tirelessly fought to get special funding for full-day kindergarten in Washingtonville, and as of this year, the school district officially made the transition.
